Paul Brown Appointed Chair of Council for International Development

ChildFund New Zealand chief executive Paul Brown has been appointed chairman for the Council for International Development (CID).

For the past five years. Mr Brown has led ChildFund New Zealand, one of the most established child focused community development agencies. He draws on a wealth of experience in the corporate sector including the banking, financial and automotive industries.

“We are fortunate indeed to have leadership of this calibre, demonstrating again the professionalism of the development sector,” says David Culverhouse, Executive Director of the Council of International Development.
The Council is the national umbrella organisation for 94 international aid and development organisations based in New Zealand and represents the New Zealand aid and development sector to the Government, to maximise their combined development impact.

“I am excited by the challenge of heading the Council of International Development. While New Zealand is starting to see strong signs of recovery from the economic crisis, developing countries have been hit much harder, and are continuing to struggle. This highlights the aid sector’s role as more critical than ever,” says Mr Brown.

The Council for International Development is tasked with representing NZ on the international stage, and is also responsible for coordinating New Zealand disaster relief agencies during international disasters.

CID members raised more than $144 million from the New Zealand public in the past year, which was allocated to a range of programmes in 87 countries.  A further $36 million of New Zealand Government grants was provided to CID members.

“We are looking forward to continuing a productive partnership with the New Zealand Government by sharing our collective knowledge and ensuring the most effective management of New Zealand funded programmes overseas,” say Mr Brown.

CID has been providing aid and development advice and support to successive governments since 1985.
